Time

During the Speech Prosody 2018 conference the time zone used in Poland will be the Central European Summer Time, CEST, UTC+2.

Money

The currency in Poland is Polish Złoty, PLN.

Electricity

The power sockets are of type E, the standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz in Poland.

Telephones

All European mobiles will work without problems. Polish mobile phone operators use both of the two standard European GSM bands, 1800 and 900 MHz. Visitors coming from the US may need a tri-band ("world") phone.

Internet access

In nearly all shopping centers there is free WiFi access available. The same applies to the hotels and the hostels in Poland. At the universities, there is the Eduroam network (World Wide Education Roaming for Research & Education).
The entire urban area has LTE mobile internet access. From June 2017 no
 roaming fees are charged.
During the SP9 conference, a dedicated network for the SP9 participants will be available.

Language

Polish is a language spoken primarily in Poland and the native language of Poles. It is estimated that 44 million people speak Polish in the world. It is one of the official languages of the European Union.

Poland, based on the population (nearly 38 mln people) and area size (over 312 thousand km2) is the sixth-largest country in the European Union.
